5.0-magnitude earthquake hits Qinghai in NW China: CENC

BEIJING, July 28 (Xinhua) -- A 5.0-magnitude earthquake jolted Xinghai County of northwest China's Qinghai Province at 4:04 p.m. on Tuesday (Beijing Time), according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).

The epicenter was monitored at 35.31 degrees north latitude and 99.56 degrees east longitude. The earthquake struck at a depth of 10 km, the center said.

Earlier on the same day, two stronger earthquakes measuring 5.7 and 5.8 magnitude hit the county at 11:16 a.m. and 11:34 a.m. respectively.

No casualties have been reported from the previous two earthquakes. The quakes damaged houses, roads and infrastructure to varying degrees across seven townships in the county, according to local authorities.
