JAKARTA, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian pharmaceutical company PT Tempo Scan Pacific and China's Chia Tai Tianqing Pharmaceutical Group, a subsidiary of Sino Biopharmaceutical Limited, on Friday launched a biopharmaceutical joint venture here aimed at reducing Indonesia's dependence on imported medicines.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the venture is expected to drive the development of biopharmaceutical products targeting top health conditions in the country, including heart disease, diabetes, and liver disease.

Airlangga said that Indonesia currently relies on imported pharmaceutical products, particularly high-cost innovative medicines.

Developing the biopharmaceutical industry through this joint venture is a key step toward achieving national drug independence and ensuring public health needs are met, Airlangga said.
