ADEN, Yemen, June 24 (Xinhua) -- A car explosion killed a journalist in Yemen's southeastern oil-rich province of Hadramout on Wednesday evening, a security official told Xinhua.
The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said an explosive device planted in the vehicle of Mohamed Aydah, a correspondent for the Saudi-owned Al-Arabiya satellite TV channel, detonated in the provincial capital of Mukalla.
Aydah was killed in the blast, and his vehicle was heavily damaged, the official said.
Security forces immediately cordoned off the area and launched an investigation into the attack, according to the official.
Al-Arabiya TV confirmed Aydah's death in a statement and extended its condolences to his family, colleagues, and loved ones.
No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing.
The incident has raised concerns over the safety of journalists operating in Yemen, where years of conflict have created a fragile security environment despite relative stability in Hadramout compared with other parts of the country.
Yemen has been mired in conflict since 2014, when Houthi forces captured Sanaa and large swathes of the north, prompting a Saudi-led coalition to intervene in 2015. ■
