GUANGZHOU, June 24 (Xinhua) -- The number of inbound and outbound passenger trips this year via Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport in south China's Guangdong Province exceeded 10 million as of Wednesday, according to Guangzhou Customs.
This figure represents a year-on-year increase of over 21 percent, hitting a record high for the same period and reaching the 10-million threshold one month earlier than in 2025.
The robust growth is mainly thanks to continuous optimization of the airport's air route network, the customs said.
Fourteen international passenger and cargo routes have been newly added or intensified this year, 13 of which connect to countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative, expanding the port's global coverage to over 100 international and regional destinations.
This improved connectivity has also lifted the port's import and export freight volume to more than 700,000 tonnes as of Wednesday, up 5.2 percent year on year, providing stable air logistics support for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area's industrial sector, supply chains and cross-border trade.
Smart customs measures including pre-inspection and intelligent image review have been rolled out to ensure efficient clearance of the rising passenger flow, with the port handling an average of 58,000 daily passenger trips and a peak of 68,000 trips per day so far this year, the customs revealed. ■
