BERLIN, June 23 (Xinhua) -- China's Wang Xinyu advanced to the quarterfinals of the WTA 500 Bad Homburg Open after defeating Leylah Fernandez of Canada in straight sets in the second round on Tuesday.
Wang needed one hour and 33 minutes to dispatch Fernandez 6-3, 6-4, securing her second career appearance in a WTA 500 quarterfinal.
"I love playing on grass, especially in Germany. I've had a great result in Berlin last year. I'm really happy with the match I played today, as well as yesterday. I'm happy with the level that I played and the aggressiveness on the court. I think I played a really good match," Wang said after the match.
Last June, Wang reached the final of the WTA 500 Berlin Open, where she finished runner-up after a hard-fought three-set battle against former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova. ■
