MADRID, June 23 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona on Tuesday completed the signing of 18-year-old Egypt international Hamza Abdelkarim from Al Ahly after triggering his release clause, reportedly worth 1.5 million euros (1.7 million U.S. dollars).
Abdelkarim is currently with Egypt at the World Cup and has appeared in both of his country's matches against New Zealand and Belgium.
The forward initially joined Barcelona on loan during the winter transfer window and scored six goals in 11 appearances for the club's under-19 team in Spain's Division de Honor.
His performances helped earn him a place in Egypt's World Cup squad.
Abdelkarim is expected to begin next season with Barcelona B, which competes in the fourth tier of the Spanish game, although he is also expected to train periodically with Hansi Flick's first-team squad. ■
