SYDNEY, March 10 (Xinhua) -- Three people were killed and four more were hospitalized after two vehicles collided head-on southwest of Sydney in the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW) on Monday night.

The NSW Police Force said on Tuesday that the two hatchbacks collided on a highway near the small town of Monga, 220 km southwest of Sydney and 75 km east of the national capital of Canberra, shortly after 5 p.m. local time on Monday.

Police established a crime scene and specialist crash investigation unit officers have commenced an investigation into the incident.

As of Monday, there had been 65 deaths in incidents on NSW roads in 2026, according to official data, up from 47 at the same time in 2025.
