HAMAR, Norway, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Czech teenager Metodej Jilek shattered a long-standing track record in the men's 5,000m, while American sensation Jordan Stolz continued his dominance at the ISU World Cup Speed Skating here on Saturday.
The 19-year-old Jilek clocked a winning time of 6:07.58 to claim the 5,000m gold. His performance shaved 2.16 seconds off the previous track record set by legendary Dutch skater Sven Kramer 16 years ago. Timothy Loubineaud of France took silver in 6:12.29, while home favorite Sander Eitrem of Norway secured the bronze.
In the men's 1,000m, Jordan Stolz set his sixth consecutive track record across two World Cup weekends. The American finished in 1:07.63, beating Poland's Damian Zurek and Dutch veteran Kjeld Nuis, who finished second and third respectively.
On the women's side, the Netherlands' Marijke Groenewoud claimed her first classic distance victory of the season, winning the 3,000m in 4:00.95. She was followed by Canada's Isabelle Weidemann and Norway's Ragne Wiklund.
Japan's Miho Takagi secured her second title of the weekend, winning the women's 1,000m in 1:14.39, finishing ahead of Dutch skaters Femke Kok and Marrit Fledderus.
Before the races, Italian skater Davide Ghiotto received the prestigious Oscar Mathisen Award for his 10,000m world record performance last season. ■
