JAKARTA, July 18 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian government will begin imposing export duties on coal and gold next year, particularly when the commodities reach favorable economic values, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia announced on Friday.

The minister clarified that the policy would not apply during periods of low prices, as doing so could burden businesses.

He stressed that when global coal prices exceed their economic value, it is only reasonable for the state to benefit from the increase.

"Later, we will determine the economic price based on global market benchmarks, and then we will implement the export duties," Bahlil said.

According to the minister, the ministry was currently drafting technical regulations to support the implementation of the policy.
