TASHKENT, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Uzbekistan plans to attract 200 million U.S. dollars to build modern schools across the country, the press service of the Uzbek president said Monday.
"Due to population growth, the demand for schools continues to grow. In this regard, it is planned to attract 200 million dollars from the Islamic Development Bank and build 58 modern schools in the regions," the press service said in a statement.
Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Monday reviewed a presentation on measures to improve the quality of school education and pedagogical staff training system, said the statement.
The state program for this year outlines a wide range of tasks to improve conditions in schools and raise an educated young generation in the country, it said, adding that the fulfillment of relevant goals depends to a large extent on the level of knowledge and professional training of teachers.
It also noted that the "Uzbekistan -- 2030" strategy, the country's long-term national development roadmap, identifies reforming the education system as one of the priority areas. ■
