BEIJING, April 14 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) announced Monday a 28-player Chinese women's basketball team roster in preparation for the FIBA Women's Asia Cup later this year, including center Li Yueru who plays in the Turkish league.

The recently concluded 2024-25 Women's Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA) league finalists, Dongguan and Sichuan, see four players each selected in the list. The recruited Dongguan players are Huang Sijing, Yang Liwei, Yang Shuyu and Chen Mingling, while Sichuan has Han Xu, Li Meng, Wang Siyu and Jia Saiqi included in the roster. Other prominent names include Pan Zhenqi, Li Yuan, Zhang Ru and young prospect Zhang Ziyu.

The team's head coach Gong Luming said the roster not only focuses on standout players in national competitions, but also sets sights on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

"Any excellent player is wanted for the national team training list, and hopefully through training, we can select the best players to participate in major competitions," he said.

China aims to retain the title at the Women's Asia Cup, which will be held in south China's Shenzhen from July 13 to 20.

According to Gong, the team plans to conduct training in Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province from April 20 to May 18, before returning to Beijing for its next phase of training from May 19 to June 10.

Six warmup matches are scheduled between early June and early July. The team will arrive in Shenzhen on July 10 for its final sprint towards the Women's Asia Cup.
