BAGHDAD, April 13 (Xinhua) -- Three Islamic State (IS) militants were killed in an airstrike in Iraq's Salahuddin province, and three others were arrested in separate counter-terrorism operations, a security source and the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) said on Sunday.
Iraqi security forces carried out an airstrike on two IS hideouts in Salahuddin, killing those inside and destroying their equipment, logistical materials, and communication devices, according to a statement from the Security Media Cell, a media outlet affiliated with the Iraqi Joint Operations Command.
Mohammed Khalil al-Bazi from Salahuddin provincial police command told Xinhua that the airstrike was conducted on Sunday evening and killed three IS militants.
In addition, the CTS announced the arrest of three more IS militants in separate counter-terrorism operations.
Based on accurate intelligence information, one was arrested in the capital Baghdad, while the other two were captured in the northern Nineveh province, the CTS said in a statement.
CTS forces also destroyed six IS hideouts, six mud houses, a pick-up truck, and a cave containing explosive materials in Diyala and Salahuddin provinces, it added.
While Iraq declared victory over the IS in 2017, remnants of the group continue to carry out attacks against security forces and civilians in urban areas, deserts, and remote regions. ■
