745 dead in disasters in Nepal in 1 year

KATHMANDU, April 11 (Xinhua) -- As many as 745 people have lost their lives in 8,861 disasters in Nepal in one year by Friday, the authorities said.

And 1,702 others have been injured and 69 remained missing in the disasters, while 18,991 households have been affected, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority said in a report.

"The past year proved to be bad in terms of disasters," Ram Bahadur KC, spokesperson for the authority, told Xinhua.

Most of the casualties were caused in rain-induced disasters, with landslides and floods claiming 351 and 97 lives, respectively, and lightning strikes and fires each causing 78 and 77 deaths.
