The Shenzhen Component Index opened at 9,681.45 points, down 73.19 points, or 0.75 percent.
The Hang Seng Index opened at 20,557.49 points, down 124.29 points, or 0.60 percent.
The S&P/ASX 200 index opened at 7,597.50 points, down 112.10 points, or 1.45 percent.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average opened at 33,951.25 points, down 657.75 points, or 1.90 percent.
The Straits Times Index opened at 3,485.31 points, down 92.52 points, or 2.59 percent.
The Korea Composite Stock Price Index opened at 2,400.74 points, down 44.32 points, or 1.81 percent.
