CANBERRA, April 10 (Xinhua) -- An exhibition at the National Museum of Australia is shedding light on a long-overlooked chapter of Australian history of relations between Aboriginal and Chinese people in Australia.
The exhibition "Our Story: Aboriginal Chinese People in Australia," launched on Thursday, was the first of its kind and the result of a three-year research project led by artist and researcher Zhou Xiaoping, said a statement of the National Museum.
Blending contemporary art, oral histories, and rare archival material, "Our Story" gives voice to the once-silenced heritage. It features works by eight artists of Aboriginal and Chinese descent, reflecting on themes of identity, cultural legacy, and the complexities of belonging, the statement said.
It includes 17 artworks and more than 30 historical and contemporary photographs and documents, according to the museum.
"Our Story" uncovers enduring ties that stretch back to the 1850s gold rush and explores cultural heritage, identity, self-discovery and the very foundations of multicultural Australia, said National Museum Deputy Director First Nations Jilda Andrews. ■
