RAMALLAH/GAZA, April 2 (Xinhua) -- Israeli forces shot and killed a Palestinian man in the old city of Nablus in the northern West Bank on Wednesday, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said.
The ministry identified the man as Hamza Muhammad Saeed Khammash, 33.
According to the official Palestinian news agency WAFA, Israeli forces stormed Nablus, raided Khammash's home, and shot him at close range. Three people were arrested during the raid, it said.
The Israeli military has not commented on the incident.
Israel describes its operations in the West Bank as counter-terrorism measures targeting individuals linked to Palestinian armed groups.
The Israeli forces continued their military operation in Jenin and its adjacent refugee camp for the 72nd consecutive day. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in January it had launched a counter-terrorism campaign in the area.
In Gaza, two people were killed and five wounded in an Israeli airstrike on the central city of Deir al-Balah, Gaza's interior authorities said.
In a statement, the authorities said the strike targeted police personnel, resulting in casualties among security officers and civilians. The two killed were identified as Hamas police officers Murid Farajallah and Younis Mohammed al-Masharfa.
Condemning the attack, Gaza authorities said the officers were carrying out security duties and assisting citizens. They accused Israel of seeking to destabilize the situation and urged international intervention to stop strikes on police forces.
The Israeli military has not commented on the airstrike. ■
