HEFEI, March 23 (Xinhua) --Jingxian County in east China's Anhui Province is the birthplace of Xuan paper, a type of handmade paper that has a history of over 1,000 years. Boasting its anti-aging, anti-discoloring and anti-decaying quality, the Xuan paper usually has a long life span.
The traditional way of making Xuan paper includes over 100 procedures to serve high-standard artistic creations, such as calligraphy, painting, etc. The craft of making Xuan paper was listed as one of the national-level intangible cultural heritages in 2006 and a world intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO in 2009.
In recent years, Jingxian County has promoted the deep integration of Xuan paper protection with the tourism and cultural industry. Tourists could have a special handicraft experience of making Xuan paper by themselves.
