WASHINGTON, March 21 (Xinhua) -- The United States is importing eggs from South Korea and Türkiye to help ease soaring prices, U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said Friday.

Imports from the two countries have begun, and imports from other countries are also in talks, she said, noting, "We are talking in the hundreds of millions of eggs for the short term."

Egg prices surged 10 percent month on month, driven by shortages caused by an avian flu outbreak. Preliminary data showed University of Michigan consumer sentiment for the United States plunged to 57.9 in March, the lowest since November 2022 amid mounting inflation, which was marked in part by continuous surges in egg prices.
