GAZA/JERUSALEM, March 19 (Xinhua) -- At least 14 Palestinians were killed in a series of Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip overnight, Palestinian sources said Wednesday.

Security sources told Xinhua that the airstrikes hit areas in Khan Younis and Rafah in the southern part of the enclave, as well as a residential house in the Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City and the Al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza.

"In Khan Younis, four people, including two women, were killed when an Israeli strike targeted a tent sheltering displaced families on Abdeen Street," said the sources.

"Another strike on a displacement tent in the southwest of Khan Younis killed two more and wounded five others," the sources added.

In a separate incident, a woman and a man were killed and three others injured when a displacement tent near Asda Prison in northern Khan Younis was hit, the sources noted.

Meanwhile, two people were killed and another injured following a strike in Rafah's industrial zone.

In Gaza City, four individuals were killed when an Israeli strike hit the home of the Hattab family, near the Abu Aida roundabout in the Sabra neighborhood. According to the sources, emergency services have rushed to the scene to search for survivors.

Israeli warplanes also targeted other areas in the enclave, including the Al-Bureij refugee camp, though no immediate reports of casualties or damage were available.

Also on Wednesday, an Israeli military spokesperson said in a statement that overnight, Israeli forces struck a Hamas military site in northern Gaza where preparations were being made to "fire projectiles at Israeli territory."

The spokesperson added that the Israeli Navy also struck several vessels in Gaza's coastal area, saying they "were intended to be used for terrorist activities by Hamas and Islamic Jihad."

The strikes are expected to continue throughout the day, according to the statement.

Israel has resumed its assault on Gaza since early Tuesday, killing more than 400 people and shattering a fragile ceasefire that took effect on Jan. 19.
