SOFIA, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarian authorities have seized 77.748 kg of marijuana at the Lesovo checkpoint on the country's border with Türkiye, the National Customs Agency (NCA) announced in a press release on Tuesday.
The illicit drug, packed into 115 vacuum-sealed packages, was confiscated during two separate inspections, with one involving a van and the other a passenger car, the NCA said.
The first seizure took place on Friday, when customs officers discovered 100 packages of marijuana weighing 60.176 kg in a van with foreign registration. The vehicle, driven by a Romanian citizen, was entering Bulgaria from Türkiye.
The second incident occurred on Sunday, when inspectors uncovered 15 packages of marijuana weighing 17.572 kg hidden behind the front and rear bumpers of a Bulgarian-registered car. The driver, a Bulgarian citizen, was attempting to leave the country.
Authorities estimate that the drugs’ black market value exceeds 690,000 U.S. dollars. Investigations into both cases are ongoing. ■
