ALMATY, March 18 (Xinhua) -- The Supreme Court of Kazakhstan and the European Court of Human Rights have signed a memorandum to strengthen cooperation in applying international judicial standards to help improve Kazakh judges' qualifications.

Chairman of the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan, Aslambek Mergaliyev, and President of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), Marko Bosnjak, signed the memorandum to enhance bilateral cooperation on Monday, said the Kazakh Supreme Court's press service.

The memorandum grants the Kazakh Supreme Court privileged access to case law materials that are not yet publicly available, allowing Kazak judges to consider relevant European judicial practices when making rulings, it said.

Agreements have also been reached to organize educational programs for Kazakh judges, providing new opportunities for improving law enforcement practices and protecting human rights and freedoms in the country.
