KABUL, March 17 (Xinhua) -- Afghan security forces have discovered a large amount of weapons and ammunition and arrested 20 criminal suspects in the northern Kunduz province, the Ministry of Interior Affairs said in a statement on Monday.
The contrabands, which included 43 various types of weapons, a large quantity of bullets and other illegally preserved military equipment, have been seized during routine military activities in different districts and in the provincial capital of the province over the past six months, the statement said.
Security forces have taken into custody 20 suspects on the charge of possessing, smuggling, and carrying illegal weapons and ammunition, said the source, adding that their dossiers were referred to the judiciary for further investigation and possible legal proceedings.
The Afghan interim government has rounded up thousands of arms and a huge quantity of ammunition as part of efforts to stabilize the security situation across the war-ravaged country. ■
