LOS ANGELES, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Paramount's action comedy film "Novocaine" took the top spot at the North American box office with an estimated three-day cume of 8.7 million U.S. dollars on its opening weekend, figures from the measurement firm Comscore showed Sunday.
Directed by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen, the film, starring Jack Quaid, follows an assistant bank manager who turns his inability to feel pain into an unexpected strength in his fight to get the girl of his dreams back after she is kidnapped.
The film has earned an approval rating of 82 percent based on 130 reviews to date on the review-aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, and a "B" on an "A+" to "F" scale from audiences polled by the market research firm CinemaScore.
Warner Bros. Pictures' sci-fi dark comedy film "Mickey 17" moved to second place on its second weekend with 7.51 million dollars. The film has grossed 33.3 million dollars in North America for a global cume of 90.5 million dollars through Sunday.
Rounding out the top three, another newcomer, Focus Features' spy drama "Black Bag," opened in third with 7.5 million dollars. ■
