PUL-E-KHUMRI, Afghanistan, March 14 (Xinhua) -- At least 19 commuters sustained injuries, some in critical condition, as a passenger bus overturned on Salang highway in Khinjan district of northern Afghanistan's Baghlan province Thursday night, an official statement said on Friday.
The injured travelers include three children, four women and 12 men, the statement of the provincial police office said without providing more details.
Police with the support of locals have shifted all the injured commuters to a hospital in the provincial capital Pul-e-Khurmi, the statement added.
A similar accident on Salang highway in Khinjan district claimed 17 lives and injured 35 others in mid-2024.
Dilapidated roads, lack of traffic signals, ignoring safety measures during travel, using old vehicles and reckless driving on congested roads often lead to deadly traffic accidents in Afghanistan, according to Afghans. ■
