Chinese boxers continue strong run at IBA Women's World Boxing Championships

NIS, Serbia, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese national champions Hu Meiyi and Wang Xiaomeng advanced to the quarterfinals of the IBA Women's World Boxing Championships at Cair Sports Hall in Nis, Serbia, on Tuesday.

Hu secured a 4-1 victory over Daina Marie Moorehouse of Ireland in the light flyweight (48-50kg) category, while Wang dominated Gulsaya Yerzhan of Kazakhstan with a decisive 5-0 win in the light heavyweight (75-81kg) division.

Four Chinese boxers - Cai Yan (featherweight, 54-57kg), Wei Sitong (flyweight, 50-52kg), Zhong Xueyun (minimumweight, 45-48kg), and Li Shu (light middleweight, 66-70kg) - will compete in the round of 16 on Wednesday.

On Thursday, Zhan Yilian will make her tournament debut in the heavyweight (81+kg) quarterfinals, while Wang Lina is set to compete in the middleweight (70-75kg) division.

So far, four Chinese contenders have been eliminated. Zhou Pan lost to Albina Moldazhanova of Russia by referee stoppage contest (RSC) in the welterweight (63-66kg) division, Zhao Shuoyu was defeated by Aida Abikeyeva of Kazakhstan in the light welterweight (60-63kg) category.

In the lightweight (57-60kg) division, Li Qange fell to Svetlana Kamenova Staneva of Bulgaria in a 4-1 decision. Earlier in the tournament, Zhao Xuan exited the competition after losing to Vo Thi Kim Anh of Vietnam in the bantamweight (52-54kg) category.

A total of 12 Chinese boxers are competing at this year's IBA Women's World Boxing Championships, which runs from March 8 to 16 in Nis, Serbia, across 12 weight divisions.
