DAKAR, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Senegalese Minister of Family and Solidarity Maimouna Dieye gathered hundreds of women at the National Grand Theater in Dakar, the country's capital, on Saturday to celebrate International Women's Day under the theme "For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment."
"This is a precious opportunity to strengthen our collective commitment to women's rights, assess the progress made, and identify persistent challenges to provide concrete solutions," she said during the celebration ceremony, attended by Marie Khone Faye, the wife of the Senegalese president, several government members, among others.
The Senegalese minister affirmed that the national transformation agenda, "Vision Senegal 2050," the new benchmark for public policies of the government, "places women at the heart of public policies."
"The president of the republic has strongly affirmed that women and girls are the true bearers of institutional and societal revolution that will lead our country, Senegal, toward a sovereign, just, and prosperous nation rooted in strong values. Senegal's development will not happen without them," Dieye said.
She added that today, women and development actors in her country are mobilized to support the head of state and the government in achieving endogenous, inclusive, and sustainable development. ■
