IBA Women's World Boxing Championships opens in Serbia

NIS, Serbia, March 8 (Xinhua) -- The IBA Women's World Boxing Championships kicked off in the Serbian city of Nis on Saturday, bringing together over 500 female boxers from more than 100 countries and regions to compete in 12 weight categories.

The tournament, which runs until March 16, will see the world's top female boxers vying for prestigious titles and prize money. Among them is a strong contingent from China, featuring a dozen athletes, including several national champions.

The Chinese boxers are Zhong Xueyun (48kg), Hu Meiyi (50kg), Wei Sitong (52kg), Zhao Xuan (54kg), Cai Yan (57kg), Li Qiange (60kg), Zhao Shuoyu (63kg), Zhou Pan (66kg), Li Shu (70kg), Wang Lina (75kg), Wang Xiaomeng (81kg), and Zhan Yilian (+81kg).

The event was officially opened by Nenad Borovcanin, President of the Serbian Boxing Federation, who highlighted the significance of hosting another major boxing tournament in Serbia. "This championships will showcase the strength, courage, and dedication of female boxers from around the world," he said.

Serbia had previously hosted the IBA Men's World Boxing Championships in 2021.
