SINGAPORE, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Singapore will provide grants to support owners of zero-tailpipe emission heavy vehicles and expand the charging network for electric heavy vehicles as part of its latest vehicle electrification push toward decarbonization, according to the Land Transport Authority.

Owners who register a zero-tailpipe emissions heavy goods vehicle or bus with a maximum laden weight of more than 3,500 kg will receive an incentive of 40,000 Singapore dollars (about 30,000 U.S. dollars).

The incentive will be disbursed in tranches over three years, namely 13,000 Singapore dollars upon vehicle registration, another 13,000 Singapore dollars on the first anniversary, and 14,000 Singapore dollars on the second.

In addition, an "Electric Heavy Vehicle Charger Grant" will co-fund up to 50 percent of electric heavy vehicle charger installation costs, capped at 30,000 Singapore dollars per charger. The grant will apply to the first 500 chargers, with a limit of up to three chargers per site.

Both schemes will take effect on Jan. 1, 2026, and will be available for three years.

"With more commercially ready electric heavy vehicle models available in the market, it is now timely to push for the decarbonization efforts for this segment to support Singapore's overall land transport decarbonization," the agency said, noting that Singapore has around 52,000 heavy vehicles, which account for about 31 percent of land transport emissions.
