JERUSALEM, March 5 (Xinhua) -- Israel's natural gas exports to Egypt and Jordan rose by 13.4 percent year-on-year in 2024, Israel's Energy Ministry said in a report on Wednesday.

According to an annual report published by the ministry, Israel's natural gas exports to its two neighboring countries amounted to 13.11 billion cubic meters (bcm), up from the 11.56 bcm exported in 2023.

This annual rise was attributed by the ministry to increased demand for natural gas from Egypt and Jordan.

Israel's Energy Minister Eli Cohen said, "The significant increase in natural gas exports to Egypt and Jordan indicates that the natural gas sector is an important strategic asset for Israel and contributes to enhancing regional stability and security and strengthening our international standing."

In total, an annual record high 27.38 bcm of natural gas was produced in 2024 from Israel's three gas fields Leviathan, Tamar, and Karish in the Mediterranean Sea, up 8.3 percent from 25.28 bcm in 2023.

Israel's natural gas and oil revenues, mainly from royalties and fees, reached a record high of 2.31 billion new shekels (638.36 million U.S. dollars) in 2024, marking an increase of about 11 percent compared to the previous year.
