JAKARTA, March 5 (Xinhua) -- As many as 146.48 million Indonesians are expected to travel for the 2025 Eid homecoming, marking a 24.33 percent decline from the 193.6 million recorded last year, according to projections from the Ministry of Transportation.
"The highest movement of people is to and from Java Island, making coordination between the Ministry of Transportation and local governments crucial," said Dudy Purwagandhi, minister of transportation, on Tuesday.
Approximately 81.5 million people will travel to and from Java, particularly the provinces of West Java, East Java, and Central Java.
Similarly, the number of vehicles using toll roads is predicted to increase by 60 percent compared to normal conditions.
Authorities also anticipate the formation of temporary markets along the route from Jakarta to West Java during the Eid homecoming season, which will run from March 26 to March 29.
Recently, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono suggested that a flexible work arrangement policy might be implemented a week before Eid, starting on March 24, to help minimize traffic congestion. ■
