BEIRUT, March 4 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed Tuesday in an Israeli drone strike on a car in the Tyre district in the western part of southern Lebanon, according to Lebanese sources.
The targeted car was parked next to a house in the village of Rechknanay, the official National News Agency reported.
A Lebanese security source told Xinhua that the Israeli drone targeted a civilian car with two missiles, adding that the attack also resulted in "material damage to two nearby homes."
The body was transported by a Lebanese Red Cross vehicle to a hospital in Tyre, the source said.
A ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon has been in place since Nov. 27, 2024, halting nearly 14 months of hostilities triggered by the Gaza war.
The agreement called for an Israeli military withdrawal from Lebanese territory, but Israel maintains a presence in five positions along the border despite a Feb. 18 deadline.
On Tuesday, Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri told local newspaper Addiyar in an interview that Israel's "aggressive policies" confirm its continuous "expansionist plans."
"Israeli occupation is not limited to the five border hills but has also resulted in the re-establishment of an occupied border strip extending one or two km inside Lebanese territory," he said.
"Lebanon is closely monitoring these movements and will not allow new realities to be imposed on the ground," he added, urging the international community to pressure Israel to halt "repeated violations of Lebanese sovereignty."
Lebanon is seeking international support for rebuilding efforts "without compromising its sovereignty or making concessions that undermine its national principles," Berri noted. ■
