Rwanda's APR dominates Zone V Volleyball Club Championship

KAMPALA, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Rwanda's army side APR Volleyball Club is the champion of the men and women categories of the 2025 African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) Zone V Club Championship which concluded in Kampala on Monday night.

The in-form APR Volleyball Club men's team came from a set down to register a 3-1 (24-26, 25-19, 25-18, 25-21) win against Police Volleyball Club (Rwanda) in the final played at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium.

APR capitalized on their quick attacks and good defending to see off the Police Volleyball Club. To reach the final, APR struggled to see off Uganda's Sport-S 3-2 in a match that kept spectators on their toes.

In the women's final, APR Volleyball Club who relied on superior blocking and well-coordinated attacks ousted 2024 champion Kenya Pipeline Volleyball Club 3-1 (24-26, 25-19, 18-25, 21-25).

Fred Musozi, an official with APR Volleyball Club said he was happy that their teams had emerged victorious. "The competition was well organized and very competitive," added Musozi.

The regional tournament attracted teams from Uganda, Kenya, South Sudan, Rwanda and Burundi.

Fernand Sauveur Ruterana, CAVB Development Commission Member thanked Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) and Uganda for being very good host. "We are happy that the championship was very competitive and ended on a positive note," Ruterana told Xinhua.

President of the Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF), Nasiwu Sadik thanked all the teams for gracing the regional tournament which helps teams prepare better ahead of the African Championship.
