LA PAZ, March 3 (Xinhua) -- At least 15 people died and 19 others were injured after a van and a passenger bus collided on the road that connects the Bolivian departments of Oruro and Potosi on Monday, said local police.
Limbert Choque, spokesperson for the Departmental Police Command told reporters that the bus, which was carrying more than 50 passengers, was heading from Oruro to Potosi, while the van was traveling in the opposite direction.
This is the second large-scale accident recorded during these carnival days in the highland region of Bolivia. A head-on collision between two interprovincial buses on the same road left 37 dead and 39 injured on March 1.
The death toll from road accidents in Bolivia has risen to at least 120 people so far this year, according to police data. ■
