BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, March 2 (Xinhua) -- Brunei achieved a 4.2-percent economic growth in 2024, its highest growth rate since 1999, Haji Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah, Brunei's minister at the Prime Minister's Office and second minister of Finance and Economy, has said.
The minister made the remarks during a speech at a session of the 21st Legislative Council meeting on Saturday.
He added that the unemployment rate in 2024 dropped to a record low of 4.8 percent, the lowest since 1991. For 2025, Brunei's economy is projected to rise between 2.4 and 3.4 percent.
Meanwhile, he announced that the Ministry of Finance and Economy had proposed a budget of 6.35 billion Brunei dollars (4.71 billion U.S. dollars) for the fiscal year 2025-26, compared to last fiscal year's 6.25 billion Brunei dollars (4.63 billion dollars). ■
