TEHRAN, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei on Friday condemned a deadly "terrorist" attack on worshipers earlier in the day inside a seminary in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

In a statement released by the ministry, Baghaei extended condolences to the victims' families as well as the Pakistani government and people, and wished for the speedy recovery of those injured in the incident.

The attack, during which a suicide bomber detonated himself inside the seminary's mosque after Friday prayers, killed five people and injured 20 others, police and rescue officials said.

Baghaei highlighted Iran's principled position of "decisively" condemning all forms of terrorism and violent extremism, stressing that preventing and countering the "hideous phenomenon" of terrorism requires cooperation and coordination among all regional countries, as well as constant fight against the perpetrators, organizers, supporters and sponsors of terrorism.

The incident, for which no group has claimed responsibility yet, was reported at about 2:00 p.m. local time (0900 GMT), Bilal Faizi, spokesperson for Pakistan's state-run Rescue 1122, told Xinhua.

It happened at "Darul Uloom Haqqania" in Nowshera district, targeting Maulana Hamid ul Haq Haqqani, the seminary's caretaker and head of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (S) party, who was critically injured and later succumbed to his injuries, Pakistan's Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed told the media.
