KATHMANDU, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- A 5.5-magnitude earthquake hit central Nepal on Friday morning, leaving one person injured and several houses damaged, a local official said.
The tremor hit at 2:51 local time, with the epicenter in Sindhupalchok district of Bagmati Province, said Ganesh Nepali, assistant chief district officer.
And the jolt was felt in Kathmandu, Nepal's capital.
A police office was also damaged in the quake, which sparked a landslide in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality of the district, Nepali told Xinhua.
"Despite a big tremor, there are no reports of huge losses yet. We are still collecting reports," he said.
He noted that panicked people left their houses and gathered in open spaces. ■
