KABUL, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- At least 36 people have died and 40 others were injured in rain-related incidents throughout Afghanistan, Mullah Janan Saeq, the spokesman for the national disaster authority, said Wednesday.
More than 300 residential houses have been either completely or partially destroyed due to the disaster, the official said, noting that the flash floods have also swept away hundreds of acres of agricultural land.
The severe casualties and damages from the flash floods have taken place in western Farah province and its adjacent provinces of Kandahar and Helmand.
Most parts of Afghanistan, including the capital Kabul, have been receiving heavy rains and snowfall since Monday. The country's meteorological department has forecasted snowfall and intermittent rain in 32 out of the 34 provinces. ■
