ISTANBUL, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- An unidentified gunman was detained after shooting a restaurant owner and proceeding to take multiple customers hostage on Monday in northwestern Türkiye, local media NTV broadcaster reported.
The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. local time (0930 GMT) at a restaurant in the Osmangazi neighborhood of the Gebze district, Kocaeli province, NTV reported.
The restaurant owner was severely wounded and rushed to hospital, NTV reported.
Following the attack, police and special operations units quickly cordoned off the area around the restaurant, and the gunman was later subdued by the special forces after a standoff, NTV reported.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, according to NTV. ■
