WELLINGTON, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- New Zealand's total volume of retail sales increased by 0.9 percent in the December 2024 quarter compared with the September 2024 quarter, according to the statistics department Stats NZ on Monday.
The modest increase in retail activity in the December quarter saw growth across most industries, Stats NZ economic indicators spokesperson Michael Heslop said.
Ten of the 15 retail industries had higher retail sales volumes in the December 2024 quarter, compared with the September 2024 quarter, contributed by the sectors of electrical and electronic goods retailing, department stores, accommodation, and food and beverage services, Heslop said.
All 16 regions had higher retail sales values in the December 2024 quarter compared with the September 2024 quarter, with sales in the South Island up by 3.5 percent, while sales in the North Island up by 1.3 percent, he said. ■
