BUENOS AIRES, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Miguel Merentiel struck late as Boca Juniors edged to a 2-1 home victory over Aldosivi in Argentina's Primera Division Apertura tournament on Saturday.
Luis Advincula gave the host the lead with a 49th-minute strike but Tiago Serrago equalized by rifling a long-range effort into the top-right corner.
Merentiel then bundled home from close range after combining with Milton Gimenez as the Buenos Aires giant secured its fourth win of the campaign.
The result at La Bombonera leaves Boca third in the 15-team Group A standings with 14 points from seven outings, a point behind leader Estudiantes. Aldosivi is last with just one point so far.
Boca manager Fernando Gago admitted after the match that his team had plenty of scope for improvement and urged fans to maintain their support.
"To our fans I say keep the faith. Our aim is to continue getting better," the former Real Madrid and Argentina international midfielder said.
In other Primera Division Apertura fixtures on Saturday, Independiente won 2-0 at home to Instituto, River Plate prevailed 2-0 at San Martin and Rosario Central clinched a 1-0 win home victory over Sarmiento. ■
