ISLAMABAD, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the formulation of a comprehensive strategy to enhance the country's exports to 60 billion U.S. dollars over the next five years, officials said.

Chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad, Sharif emphasized the need for sustainable tariff reforms to accelerate economic growth, promote industrial development, and boost exports, a statement from the Prime Minister's Office read on Thursday.

He underscored the importance of prioritizing key sectors, including services, information technology, and agriculture, as part of the government's vision for export-led economic progress, the statement added.

To facilitate export industries, the prime minister ordered governance reforms in the Export Development Fund and called for further consultations on the Strategic Trade Policy Framework 2025-2030.

Officials briefed him on ongoing tariff reductions and annual international exhibitions aimed at promoting Pakistan's exports.

The meeting was informed that the country's e-commerce policy is in its final consultation phase and will be presented to the cabinet next month.

Meanwhile, a newly established National Compliance Center will help align Pakistani products with global standards through training and capacity-building programs, the statement added.
