KAMPALA, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopia's women's national team head coach Yosef Gebrewold has expressed confidence in his side ahead of their match against Uganda in the 2026 CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers.
Uganda will host Ethiopia in the first leg on February 21 at the Hamz Stadium in the capital Kampala.
"I am very confident that we will get a good result against Uganda because we have prepared well," Gebrewold told Xinhua upon arrival in Uganda on Wednesday.
Gebrewold's team had two build-up matches against Djibouti, winning 17-0 on aggregate, and the coach made it clear that his team knows what to expect against the Crested Cranes.
"Uganda is a strong team, and we have tried to get videos of its matches against Morocco, DR Congo and Algeria last year to assess its strengths and weaknesses," added the Ethiopia coach.
Gebrewold made it clear that his team will have to get a good result before the return leg in Addis Ababa.
Ethiopia will be led by U.S.-based striker Loza Abera Geinore, who plays for DC Power FC in the USL Super League, and Aregash Kalsa, who recently signed for Tanzania Women's Premier League side Yanga Princess.
Other teams from the CECAFA Zone playing in the WAFCON 2026 qualifiers include Djibouti, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda and Kenya. ■
