PARIS, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- France's consumer price index (CPI) rose by 1.7 percent year-on-year in January, the French National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE) announced on Tuesday.

The increased in inflation was driven by rising prices in services and energy, and the rebound in manufactured goods prices, INSEE said in its final report.

Following new pricing adjustments in public transport and doctor consultation, along with the three-week winter sales period, services prices grew by 2.5 percent in January, up from 2.2 percent in December. Meanwhile, manufactured goods prices saw a slight recovery, rising by 0.2 percent after a 0.4 percent decline in the previous month.

In an economic forecast published in December last year, France's central bank, Banque de France, projected that the country's inflation would decrease again to an annual average of 1.6 percent in 2025.

"This decline would be explained in particular by negative inflation in energy prices," it said.
