ABIDJAN, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Cote d'Ivoire will strive to reduce its poverty rate to below 20 percent in 2030 by implementing its National Development Plan (PND) 2026-2030, Prime Minister Robert Beugre Mambe said Monday.

"The PND 2026-2030 is designed to sustain the downward trend in poverty to below 20 percent in 2030 ... despite an annual demographic growth rate of 2.6 percent," said Mambe at the opening of a government seminar.

The objective aligns with the country's goal of becoming an upper middle-income country by 2030, which would see its average income per capita rise from 1,722 U.S. dollars recorded between 2010 and 2020 to around 4,000 dollars in 2030, an increase of 132 percent, said the prime minister.

Cote d'Ivoire has managed to reduce its poverty rate from 55 percent in 2011 to 37.5 percent in 2021, the largest drop since 1985, said the prime minister.

The PND 2026-2030 aims to adopt a new economic growth model and integrate international practices to guide strategic decisions, he said.
