SEOUL, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's automotive export logged a double-digit fall on the back of fewer business days, government data showed Tuesday.
Car shipment dipped 19.6 percent from a year earlier to 4.99 billion U.S. dollars in January, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
The double-digit reduction was attributed to fewer working days, caused by the Lunar New Year's holidays.
The number of exported vehicles was 199,663 in January, down 17.9 percent from a year earlier.
Export for eco-friendly sedans declined 17.1 percent to 1.72 billion dollars, while auto parts shipment plunged 17.2 percent to 1.57 billion dollars.
The number of vehicles, manufactured in local factories, dived 18.9 percent to 290,590 in January on a yearly basis.
The number of cars sold inside the country, including locally-made and imported vehicles, totaled 105,928 in January, down 9.0 percent from a year earlier. ■
