BEIJING, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Super League (CSL) club Meizhou Hakka announced that it has signed Cameroonian winger Jerome Ngom Mbekeli.
The 26-year-old striker will wear No. 8 jersey for the new season, Meizhou Hakka said in a statement released on Sunday.
Mbekeli's most memorable performance so far came at the 2022 World Cup when he provided an assist for his teammate to score against Brazil, helping Cameroon beat Brazil 1-0 in their last group game.
"We hope that he can bring new energy and threat to the team's offensive line, infusing more dynamism into the team's attack, and lead the team to achieve even better results in the Chinese Super League and various competitions," the club added in a statement.
The Meizhou side was relegated last season, but was brought back to the top flight after Cangzhou Mighty Lions was denied the permission to play in the CSL. It will face Tianjin Jinmen Tigers in its season opener on Feb. 23. ■
