SEOUL, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's export volume logged a double-digit fall last month due to fewer business days, central bank data showed Friday.

The export volume index tumbled 10.7 percent in January from a year earlier, after rising 6.6 percent in the previous month, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK).

The double-digit reduction was attributable to lower working days, affected by the Lunar New Year holidays.

In terms of volume, the outbound shipment for oil products, chemicals, machinery and transport equipment dived in double figures.

Export volume for primary metal products, electrical equipment, computers, electronic and optical devices retreated to single digits.

The export value index dropped 11.1 percent in January compared to the same month of last year, turning downward from a growth of 7.8 percent in the previous month.

The import volume index shrank 3.8 percent in the cited month, while the import value index was down 7.1 percent.

The net terms-of-trade index for goods, or a ratio of export prices to import prices, advanced 3.1 percent in January from a year earlier owing to a faster fall than export prices.
