VIENTIANE, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- The combined trade value of Laos' imports and exports amounted to 16.3 billion U.S. dollars in 2024, an increase of five percent compared to the figures for 2023.
The value of exports in 2024 was recorded at 8.1 billion dollars, a decrease of 2.7 percent compared to the figures for 2023, according to the latest report from the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI).
Meanwhile, imports in 2024 were worth 8.2 billion dollars, an increase of 14 percent compared to the figure for 2023.
Laos' main export products included electricity, salt, gold ore and gold bars, electrical appliances, rubber, paper, cassava, wood pulp and waste paper, and clothes.
The country's main imports included diesel, mechanical equipment, land vehicles, finished chemical products, steel, electrical and electronic equipment, plastic products, wood pulp and paper waste, beverages, and gasoline.
China, Thailand and Vietnam are among the leading export destinations for Lao products. Meanwhile, the main importing countries of Laos include Thailand, China and Vietnam, according to the report.
In 2023, the country's exports were worth about 8.3 billion dollars, while imports were valued at 7.1 billion dollars, resulting in a trade surplus of 1.2 billion dollars in 2023. ■
