RIO DE JANEIRO, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- LA Galaxy is close to signing Brazil under-23 forward Matheus Nascimento on loan from Botafogo, according to media reports in the South American country.
The MLS club is hoping to secure the 20-year-old on an initial six-month agreement with an option to make the deal permanent when the loan expires, news outlet Lance reported on Monday.
It added that Nascimento had agreed in principle to the move and was unlikely to represent Botafogo again this season.
Nascimento has scored 12 goals and provided seven assists since making his professional debut in 2020. He missed most of last year because of a severe hamstring tear but has returned to full fitness in recent weeks.
The only Brazilian currently in the LA Galaxy squad is forward Gabriel Pec. ■
