LIMA, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- At least two people were killed after a landslide occurred Saturday afternoon in Bambas district, in the Peruvian province of Corongo, the National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) said Monday.
The institution stated that the accident also affected homes, roads, crop areas and electrical energy service, while personnel from the district municipality continued to evaluate the damage.
The private radio station Radio Programs del Peru said that the two deceased people belonged to a group of workers who were carrying out water collection work on the banks of the Santa River.
The landslide was caused by rains in recent days, which were previously announced by the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service of Peru.
The National Civil Defence Institute coordinates with local authorities and monitors the situation through the COEN. ■
